Elemental Kingdoms is an online collectible card game created by iFree Studio and Perfect World Entertainment. It's a vaguely story-based game with plenty of cards to gather and strategies to employ. This quick start strategy guide will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to play your best game.
Quick Start Guide
- First thing's first: if you don't already have Elemental Kingdoms installed, make sure to click on your game platform in the “Available On” box at the top of this page in order to get started.
- Next comes the Push Notifications pop-up that you're probably all too familiar with at this point. Pick whichever suits you, but know that there really isn't much of a need to receive notifications in the first place.
- And now for the icky part: updating. It shouldn't take too long, but you're going to have to wait while the game downloads assets for the first time.
- Now for the particulars of the interface. We'll start with the main menu.
- Events – pulls up a menu displaying Login Rewards, events, acquired Rewards, and a window for Buying Gems (premium currency).
- Arc (the little swirly logo) – access your Arc account, create one, view friends lists, forums, log in with Facebook, etc.
- Text Bubble – the world chat. Talk with other players about strategies, random stuff, etc.
- Little Blue Running Guy – this is your energy, which is required to battle, quest, and explore.
- Menu – open the Game Menu to view your Card Album, Runes Album, Achievements, Battle Logs, Update Logs, Settings, Wanted Poster, Help, and E-mail.
- Store –buy more gems and buy more cards. Cards can be purchased using gold earned in-game (5 cards for 10K), gems (1 card for 30, 11 cards for 300), and special fire tokens that are often offered as login rewards (1 card for 1).
- Deck –edit your deck, choose a rune to equip, change decks (when the ability to create and save multiple decks is available), and view your hero's stats.
- Social – check your personal Invite code, Add Friends or search for specific players, and check pending Requests. You can also Send energy to your friends and Claim extra energy that they've sent to you.
- Map – head to the Map screen in order to complete quests.
- Enchant – use cards you don't want (and some cash) to power-up cards you'd like to keep with Enchant Card; do the same for runes with Enchant Rune, or Sell whatever you have no use for if you need the money.
- Arena – have a Friendly Match (i.e. just for funzies) or a Ranked Match (earn gold and exp.) with other players.
- Temple – can Meditate in order to try and earn Grey Runes (good for selling/enchanting) or Rune Scraps, which can be exchanged for whole runes.
- Questing on the Map is fairly simple: just tap on the number for the area you'd like to check out, and then tap on the encounter you wish to take part in.
- Each encounter will be marked with a star (0-3) to indicate how many times you've completed it.
- One star is given for finishing an encounter, two for completing it on Medium difficulty while meeting special requirements (i.e. have at least 3 2-star cards in the deck), and three for finishing it on Hard with even stricter conditions.
- Fight – jump right into the fray at the current unbeaten difficulty.
- Explore – spend energy searching the area without actually fighting. Yields gold, experience, and sometimes cards, but the rewards are often less than what they would be after fighting. However, once an encounter has been completed on Hard, Fighting is no longer an option, so Explore will be your only way to keep farming the area.
- Guide – check out replays of other players' matches in an encounter. It could be a good way to pick up a tip or two if an area is giving you trouble.
- Encounters with a crown indicate a boss fight. These are tougher than the rest, obviously, but once they're completed, you'll gain access to the next section of the map with greater challenges and greater rewards.
- The “Myst Tower” is a special area that can be explored once per day for free (you can also pay gems to reset it more than once). You must navigate through a simple maze, searching for treasure chests and battling monsters, while also searching for the stairs leading to the next floor.
- Combat is mostly automatic, but there are a few basic rules to abide by.
- Each side draws one card per turn, at random.
- Every single card has an activation time, displayed as a number next to an hourglass. This represents how many turns must pass once they've been drawn before they can be put onto the field.
- You can place as many cards onto the field in one turn as you'd like, so long as they're active. This includes zero if you'd rather hold back a little or wait to put out a stronger card first.
- Cards only directly attack whatever is in front of them. If another card is facing them, they'll deal damage to it until it's destroyed. If no cards are present, it does direct damage to the opposing player/character.
- Card skills activate automatically and can include dealing damage to any random enemy card, inflicting status effects, healing friendly cards, reducing damage when attacked, and so on.
- If you'd prefer to move things along during less challenging encounters, you can tap the Auto button to have the game place cards as soon as they're active. It's a good way to speed through combat, although it unfortunately can't always be skipped, so you'll still have to sit and wait while everything plays out regardless.
- Runes act as a sort of damage bonus. Each rune activates under different circumstances (for example, when you have 2+ cards in the graveyard), and have varying effects that can slow down, damage, or otherwise impede your enemy.
Tips and tricks
- Focus on enchanting one card at a time. You don't necessarily need to max them all out since almost all of them tend to learn new abilities at levels 5 and 10, but if you're trying to strengthen certain cards, it's best to at least get one to level 5 before moving on to another. This way your card will have boosted stats and a presumably nasty new skill to bring into battle.
- Be mindful of those activation times. It can be tempting to toss that super-powerful five-star behemoth into your deck, but if it takes 6 turns to activate, you may want to give it a little more thought. It won't do you much good if it's just sitting in your hand while the rest of your team gets steamrolled.
- Pay attention to those skills. Sometimes high attack and health stats are nice, but having a slightly less powerful card with significantly more powerful abilities will often work in your favor.
- Don't immediately trash cards you don't want. Just because a card doesn't seem appealing to your current setup doesn't mean you won't want its bonus damage to Tundra later on when you're up to your neck in Tundra-themed enemies.
- Explore the Myst Tower often. It's a quick and easy way to make some extra experience and cash, as well as find more cards. Plus it's just a nice change of pace from the typical grind.
- Don't feel like sitting there watching auto battles all the time? Explore! It doesn't earn quite as much experience or gold as battling, but it still earns enough. It also sometimes results in getting more cards and it's so much faster.
- Spend that cash! You'll earn quite a bit of money from questing, leveling up, logging in, and so on. So if you've got it, spend it! Buy more cards and enchant your heavy-hitters because you will be getting more gold in the near future, and it doesn't do you any good just sitting there.
