NASCAR finally makes an appearance in social games by debuting in Car Town. The auto-flavored Facebook game will feature a set of NASCAR-themed prizes and minigames from June 13 to July 13. Developed by Cie Studios, Car Town boasts almost 9 million players, but those numbers could grow as NASCAR advertises to draw more of your friends’ into the game.
By heading over to the Sprint Speedway, players can take part in the NASCAR Pro-Championship. A set of racing minigames unlocks posters and prizes for your NASCAR trophy room. Mixed into the NASCAR quests are some ad interaction requirements, like posting updates about the promotion to your Facebook wall and visiting a fan page for NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series. Even after you win the grand prize, one objective tasks you with offering thanks to Sprint three days in a row.
If you haven’t played Car Town yet, the game involves buying and racing cars while you service customers at your garage. Taking on jobs like car washes and fuzzy dice installations earns you money to trick out your vehicles for the dragway. You can race against friends and strangers and the results are determined by a simple minigame. Over time, you expand your garage, hire friends as your mechanics and build up your car collection.NASCAR joins an already full list of in-game sponsors. In addition to the new NASCAR content, Car Town currently features ads or in-game promotions for State Farm, IndyCar, Fast Five and Back to the Future, not to mention the car promotions by real manufacturers like Chrysler. This may make earn the record for highest number of simultaneous promotions in a social game. Something about cars mitigates the obnoxious qualities of in-game adverts. Just like real sports teams make sports games more appealing, real auto brands really work in a game all about cars.
