A lot of genres have managed to find a perfect home on the App Store, but the MMORPG hasn’t been one of them. Despite numerous attempts, it’s just a genre that hasn’t really gained the traction everyone hoped it would. Sure Pocket Legends has a devoted following, and a number of freemium games have MMO elements, but we haven’t really had a giant, PC-quality, breakout hit yet. Gameloft is looking to change that with their upcoming Order & Chaos Online.
Like many Gameloft games, the inspiration other popular franchises have had on this release is clear. Order & Chaos Online is Gameloft’s attempt to copy the World of Warcraft formula and bring it to a portable audience.

There are a few details out in the wild, including an answer to that dreaded MMO question: will there be a monthly fee? The answer is yes, but it’s rather painless. When you purchase the app ($6.99) you’ll receive your first 3 months free. After that you’ll only need to pay 99 cents a month, or you can buy your months in bulk to get them even cheaper.

At launch, the game offers four available races: Elves, Humans, Orcs and Undead. The first two fight for the side of order, while the latter fight for the side of chaos. Each account will support up to four different characters, and the game promises appearance, class, and talent customization, as well as more than 1000 skills and 2000 pieces of equipment. Players will also be able to join a guild or a party, and will have more than 500 quests to perform.
There’s been no clear indication of whether or not additional content will be added down the road, but with an MMO, it seems like an inevitability.
